What another wonderful week we've had in Year 1! The children have been busy learning, exploring and having lots of fun along the way!
English: We have started our lovely new story, Perfectly Norman! The children have enjoyed meeting Norman and discovering his amazing, colourful wings. We've been thinking of exciting words to describe them and using these to write our own sentences. We've also been practising spotting and correcting little mistakes in our writing.
Maths: We've been busy comparing and ordering numbers to 10! The children have enjoyed playing number games, using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols, and using number lines to find one more and one less.
Science: We've continued exploring our amazing bodies! This week, we took a closer look at our hair, eyes, hands, and height, comparing them and discovering what makes them similar and different.
Geography: Our little geographers have been putting their map-making skills to the test, drawing maps to show the route from school to St Luke's Church!
Art: We've had lots of fun trying backwards and forwards drawings in our Drawing Journey, exploring different lines, shapes and movements.
RE: We've been learning about Christianity and exploring Bible stories such as The Calm Storn and the Lost Sheep. The children particularly enjoyed hunting for the lost sheep hidden around our classrooms!
PE: We've been jumping into action this week, practising different ways to jump and land safely while developing our balance and coordination.
Phonics and Handwriting: We've been working hard in our RWI groups and practising our letter formation, focusing on o, c and q.
It was also lovely to welcome so many visitors into Year 1 for our Open Day on Friday! We hope our visitors enjoyed having a little peek into our classrooms and seeing all the wonderful learning that takes place.
Wishing you all a lovely, restful weekend!
