Another brilliant week in Year 1!

In English, the children have been planning for our big write next week. This term, they have been working towards writing their own teddy bear fact file, thinking about what teddy bears look like, what they are made from, and who enjoys playing with them. We can’t wait to celebrate their independent writing next week!

In maths, we have been focusing again on teen numbers, number bonds to 20, and beginning to explore doubles. The children learned how doubling can help solve trickier sums, such as 8 + 7, by doubling 8 and subtracting 1.

In science, we continued learning about light. The children revisited waterproof and non-waterproof materials and learned two new words: transparent and opaque. They enjoyed hunting for objects that allow light to pass through and those that block it.

The children have loved programming Bee-Bots in our computing learning this week, working in pairs to move them between targets while using directional language.

In History, we explored toys from today. The children described their favourite toys from home, before working in small groups, each given a toy in a bag. Each. group came up with clues to describe the toy to the class. The rest of the class then guessed which toy it was. This led to some fantastic discussions and thinking about how toys are used.

In RE, we talked about how music can help us during worship and shared how different songs make us feel.

Well done to the children for another fantastic week of learning!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
