Year 1 Blog 25.09.26

Date: 24th Sep 2026 @ 8:24pm

What a wonderful week we have had in Year 1! The children have been working incredibly hard and we have been so proud of the enthusiasm and confidence they are showing in their learning.

In English, we have continued exploring Ruby’s Worry. The children have been thinking carefully about what Ruby can see, think and feel, and came up with some fantastic words to describe her worry. We have been working really hard on our sentence writing, remembering those all-important capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. It has been lovely to see the children becoming more confident and independent writers already!

We have also been super busy in Phonics, practising our sounds, blending words and building our confidence as readers. Splat the Sound was definitely a favourite this week!

In Maths, we continued our work on numbers to 10. We practised matching numerals to number words, counting on from different numbers and finding one more and one less. The children particularly enjoyed using number tracks, ten frames and cubes to help with their learning.

In Science, we learned more about our amazing bodies and our five senses. The children had lots of fun exploring different objects and deciding which senses they could use to find out more about them.

In Geography, we became geography detectives! We explored our school environment and spotted lots of human and physical features, thinking about which have been made by people and which are part of the natural world.

In Computing, we became Computer Detectives, learning to recognise and name the different parts of a computer and finding out what they are used for.

In PE, we worked on our running skills, practising changing our speed and direction while moving safely and carefully around a space.

It was also lovely to see so many parents and carers at our Welcome Meeting on Wednesday evening. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us! For those who couldn’t make it, we have attached a leaflet to our main class page which covers everything we went through on the night.

We are so proud of our Year 1 children and everything they have achieved this week. They are settling into Year 1 brilliantly and we can’t wait for another exciting week of learning!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
