Year 1 Blog 25.04.25

Date: 24th Apr 2025 @ 4:25pm

A warm, welcome back to our final term… This half term our topic is entitled, “Into the Forest.” The children have enjoyed starting their new topic.

The children returned full of news and are settling back into school life. During our English lessons, the children completed a piece of independent writing based on their Easter holiday news. Next week in English, we will commence sharing a number of traditional tales. Our English focus is the story of Little Red Riding Hood.

On Wednesday, we learned all about St George and how Saint George’s Day can be celebrated. We spent time thinking about England and the different physical and human features of the landscape.

As part of our topic, we will learn more about plants and look forward to diarising the progress of our beans, each week. Next week, the children will have the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences of growing fruit and vegetables for themselves.

As you know, our Phonic Screening takes place this summer term and daily sounds and reading will put the children in their best position when completing it.

The new Home Learning grid for Summer 1 has been placed into your child’s home learning book, or book bag. As well as this, the red words for this half term have also been put in.

Have a lovely weekend.

The Year One Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
