This week in Year 1 has been full of exciting learning!

In English, we finished our instructional writing on how to trap the Big Bad Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood. We are now starting The Three Billy Goats Gruff, where the children are planning how to catch a troll! It’s been great to see them using ambitious vocabulary and taking care with their handwriting.

In Maths, we’ve been learning to share objects into equal groups, getting ready to move on to fractions next week (halves and quarters).

In Science, we have been labelling parts of a plant, including roots, stem, petals and leaves, and exploring plants during outdoor learning.

In PSHE, we discussed trusted adults outside of school and created unique handprint art to show who keeps us safe.

In Art, we continued our forest landscapes, mixing shades of green and using tools to create leaf-like textures.

We ended the week with a lovely discussion about kindness - what it means to be a good friend and how we can show small acts of kindness every day, and we created a poster to share our ideas.

We’re looking forward to another sunny and exciting week ahead!

A quick reminder that Monday is our class photo day, so children should come to school in full uniform with black shoes (black or white shoes for girls). No PE kits needed on Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
