This week we have contined our wonderful learning all about toys!

In English, we focused on a Jack in the Box. The children discussed what a Jack in the Box might be made from and wrote their ideas in their build-up books. They then practised turning their ideas into full sentences, with lots of modelling and support. Later in the week, we explored who might play with a Jack in the Box, discussing that toys are for everyone — not just boys or girls. We can't wait to write our own fact files about teddies next week, trying our very best to remember those capital letters and full stops!

In Maths, the children have been working hard on counting forward and back within 20 using number lines, showing growing confidence and great concentration.

In Science, we revisited the ideas of waterproof and non-waterproof. The children worked in groups to investigate which materials would keep Teddy dry inside a jar. There were lots of predictions, testing, and brilliant scientific thinking.

During PSHE the children learned about the importance of physical activity, rest, and sleep. We talked about our strengths and goals, and discussed what helps us feel calm and relaxed. We also explored why sleep is so important for our bodies, learning how it helps us grow, repair, learn, and concentrate.

In RE, we began learning about places of worship for Jewish people, focusing on the synagogue, and talked about why it is a special place.

1MP celebrated a huge achievement on Thursday — earning 30 golden tickets! 🎉 The children enjoyed a golden ticket afternoon where they wore their own clothes and brought in a toy to play with.

To top it all off, On Friday, we all enjoyed a very special teddy bear picnic! The children brought in their favourite teddy bears from home, introduced them to the class, and shared what they love most about them. This was a lovely opportunity to practise speaking skills and use descriptive language in preparation for our teddy bear writing next week.

Well done Year 1!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
