Year 1 Blog 22.05.26

Date: 22nd May 2026 @ 3:25pm

We have had a fantastic term in Year 1 and are incredibly proud of the children’s determination, enthusiasm and progress. They have worked so hard across all areas of learning and continue to grow in confidence every day.

In English, the children have now each independently finalised their instructional writing using their phonic knowledge to help them spell and write with increasing confidence. It has been wonderful to see how much progress they have made in their independent work.

The children also thoroughly enjoyed making their own gingerbread men this week! They loved carefully measuring the ingredients and following the recipe step by step, whilst developing their maths and teamwork skills along the way!

We are very excited to begin our new topic all about the seaside next term. We will be learning about seaside holidays, exploring coastal environments and finding out more about Formby and its beautiful beach, dunes and wildlife.

Have a wonderful Half-Term holiday, everyone!

Homework

With our Phonics Screening Check beginning on Monday 8th June, the children’s half-term homework is to practise reading both the real and alien words that have been sent home in their book bags. Please also take time with your child to view the two attached powerpoints below, as these provide valuable at-home practice to help support your child as much as possible.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
