What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year One. We’ve been thinking about feelings and friendship through our focus story Ruby’s Worry. The children created their very own worry monsters and had some lovely discussions about how we can help comfort a friend when they’re feeling worried.

We also explored the season of autumn on a sensory walk around our school grounds. We used our five senses to notice the changes around us – especially the fallen leaves! We talked about how animals might use these leaves to build cosy homes as the weather gets colder.

In maths, we’ve been learning to count backwards and find numbers that are one less than another. We’re getting really confident using the language “less than” and “more than” too.

Outdoor PE has been full of energy as we’ve been practising our skipping skills – lots of smiles and determination all round!

In phonics, we’re continuing to work hard and have brought home two new reading books to enjoy. Please do take some time to read with your child and write a quick note in their yellow reading record to share how they’re getting on.

A big well done to our Superstars of the week and those who reached gold on our class behaviour chart!

Have a lovely weekend – we’re looking forward to more fun and learning next week!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
