Year 1 Blog (19.06.26)

What a fantastic week we have had in Year 1!

In English, we have been developing our postcard writing skills. The children have enjoyed thinking of exciting ways to describe their location and the adventures they have been having. We have also been using exclamation marks to show excitement when writing to our reader. It has been wonderful to see improvements in handwriting, with children remembering their capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

In Maths, we have been learning about time, exploring seconds, minutes and hours. We have discussed how long different activities take and used time vocabulary to help us understand the passing of time in our everyday lives.

With the warmer weather, we have loved spending more time outdoors. The children have had lots of fun with our water and sand play, exploring, creating and working together. We would be very grateful for any unwanted water-play resources that you no longer us, such as bath toys, toy cars, jugs or tea sets. We are also looking for a plastic outdoor storage unit if anyone is planning to replace or dispose of one. Any donations would be greatly appreciated and put to excellent use by our Year 1 children. Thank you for your support.

We have also been having lots of fun practising for our upcoming Sports Day! The children have loved taking part in relay races, egg and spoon races, hurdles and sprints, showing fantastic enthusiasm as we get ready for the big day!

In Art, we have continued our 3D bird project. This week, we carefully studied feathers, noticing their beautiful patterns, textures and fine details while sketching in our sketchbooks. We have also started creating our own 3D bird sculptures and are excited to see them take shape.

Well done, Year 1, for another brilliant week of learning.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
