Year One: What a Wonderful Week!

What an amazing week we have had! We are blown away by how quickly the children have settled into their new routines and, most importantly, by their growing independence. They have shown such enthusiasm for learning, and we are so proud of the way they have embraced every challenge. We have such an exciting year ahead, and we cannot wait to see each and every child blossom throughout the year!

What have we been learning this week?

English – Ruby’s Worry

We have been exploring the story Ruby’s Worry and practising our recall skills by resequencing the beginning, middle and end of the story. The children have amazed us with their ability to remember and describe how Ruby felt at each stage. We have also been writing sentences to retell the story.

Phonics

We have been continuing to develop our phonics skills, practising our sounds and applying them to our reading and writing. The children have been working hard to build their confidence and independence.

Maths

In maths, we have been counting objects from larger groups and sorting objects by different classifications, such as shape and colour. The children have enjoyed exploring objects and explaining how they can be grouped.

Computing

We have been exploring the technology all around us, both in the world and within our classroom. The children have been identifying different devices and discussing how they help us, such as using watches to tell the time.

Music

We have started exploring pulse in music. The children have been learning what a pulse is and how we can hear and feel it within different sounds and music.

Science

In science, we have been exploring the human body. The children enjoyed drawing around their friends and labelling different body parts, developing their understanding of our bodies.

Geography

Our geography detectives have been investigating the difference between human and physical geography. We have started exploring our local area and identifying the different features we can find around us.

Art

We have begun our drawing journey, exploring continuous line drawings. The children have started developing their drawing skills and will continue to learn lots of exciting techniques throughout the term.

Thank you to all the grown-ups who helped children to complete their home learning this week. It has been wonderful to celebrate their fantastic work in school. We are so excited for another week of learning next week!
