Another great week in Year 1! A huge well done to our Year 6 children for completing their SATs this week. Year 1 were incredibly sensible and respectful, staying very quiet in the corridors so they did not disturb the older children during their tests.

In English, our work on instructional writing has prepared us for writing our own instructions on how to catch a fairy tale character of our choice! The children have been focusing on using capital letters, neat handwriting and careful instructions to explain how to catch their chosen baddie. We cannot wait to celebrate their finished independent writing next week.

In Maths, we have been learning positional language, including forwards, backwards, above, below, top and bottom, before exploring ordinal numbers such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

In Science, the children enjoyed a walk around the school grounds to identify trees and flowers growing in our local environment before drawing what they observed.

In PSHE, the children explored what an emergency is and practised how to make an emergency phone call through role play, learning the emergency number as well as their address and postcode.

In Art, we continued creating our forest landscape collages. The children assembled and glued their final landscapes into their sketchbooks, recapping how to build compositions by placing big shapes first before layering smaller details on top.

We can hardly believe that next week is already our final week of this half term! The days are flying by now, and it has been wonderful to see how much they have all grown in confidence and independence throughout Year 1.

Have a wonderful weekend!

The Year 1 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
