We’ve had such a fantastic week in Year 1!

We started with Odd Socks Day, and everyone looked fantastic celebrating how unique we all are. Year 6 School Council members led a brilliant assembly about using our Power for Good to spread kindness, which the children really enjoyed.

On Tuesday, the class were very respectful as we thought about Remembrance Day. We made beautiful poppy paintings and talked about why the poppy is an important symbol of thankfulness.

In our Animal Kingdom topic, we learned the words carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. The children had great fun sorting toy animals into the right groups. In English, we began collecting facts about penguins, learning how resilient they are. The children used some wonderful vocabulary to write sentences about these amazing animals.

In Maths, we practised subtracting 2, using number lines to help us jump back two spaces. The children worked really hard and showed great focus.

In Art, we continued practising our sketching by drawing spirals and filling them with bright, bold colours.

We ended the week on Friday by celebrating Children in Need, and everyone looked brilliant.

Thank you for your support. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
