What a fantastic final week of term we have had in Year 1!
In English, we enjoyed reading The Everywhere Bear. The children loved following the bear’s adventures and were very excited to share stories about the places their own teddies have travelled.
In Maths, we have been working hard on grouping larger numbers (up to 50) into tens and ones. The children have been using practical resources and visual representations to help them understand place value. This is excellent preparation for learning our 10 times tables, and we are very proud of the progress they are making.
Our Science lessons turned the classroom into a detective zone! The children became material detectives, sorting objects according to what they are made from. We set up three large hoops labelled fabric, metal and plastic, and the children worked in teams to search the classroom for items made from these materials (including wood where appropriate). They showed fantastic teamwork, observation skills and scientific thinking.
In PSHE, the children discussed activities they enjoy as a class, such as story time, play activities and extra time outdoors. We talked about different ways to make decisions and introduced the idea of voting as a fair method where everyone has an equal say. The class then voted to choose an activity to enjoy together - a wonderful way to practise fairness, respect and listening to others’ opinions.
We ended the week in the best possible way - with a brilliant disco! There was lots of dancing, laughter and smiling faces, and it was a lovely celebration of all the children’s hard work this term.
We are already looking forward to next term, when our exciting new topic will be Pirates and Explorers - we can’t wait to begin our adventures!
Wishing you all a wonderful, restful half-term break.
