What a wonderful week it has been in Year 1!

On Monday, we enjoyed a brilliant walk to the Church to watch the fabulous Year 3 lead a special Harvest service - the children were fantastic listeners and represented our class beautifully.

In English, we have been focusing on improving our handwriting, practising careful letter formation as we begin to write sentences describing how Perfectly Norman’s feelings change throughout the story.

In Maths, we have been perfecting our number bond skills to 10, using Numicon to explore how different pairs of numbers fit together to make ten.

In Science, we’ve been learning all about the four seasons, discussing how the weather and environment change throughout the year.

Our PE lessons have been full of energy this week! Indoors, we’ve been developing our gymnastics skills and have started to link our moves into short sequences. Outdoors, we’ve been practising our underarm throws, using our straight, non-throwing arm to aim and throw beanbags accurately into target hoops.

In RE, we explored the story of Jonah and the Whale. The children loved making origami whales to help retell and act out the story.

Finally, in PSHE, we discussed what makes a good teammate. The children showed brilliant cooperation as they worked together in groups to build the tallest free-standing towers using multilink cubes.

Well done, Year 1 - a week full of hard work, teamwork, and creativity!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
