What an exciting first week back we’ve had in Year 1! The children have loved diving into our brand-new topic, The Animal Kingdom, and their curiosity and enthusiasm have really shone through.

In English, we’ve begun our new unit all about Penguins! The children have been finding out lots of fun facts about these amazing Antarctic animals. We even had a go at pretending to be penguins ourselves — waddling around the classroom, flapping our wings, and huddling together to stay warm! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be gathering facts and writing our very own penguin fact files.

In Maths, we’ve been exploring fact families — groups of number sentences that use the same three numbers. The children have been learning how addition and subtraction are linked, helping them to understand number bonds and build strong mental maths skills.

In Science, we started learning how to identify different animals and talk about their features. The children did brilliantly at sorting and describing animals by their features and where they live.

With Bonfire Night on Wednesday, we also talked about how to stay safe during celebrations. The children created colourful safety posters and drew dazzling chalk firework pictures! We even learned about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot — a fascinating bit of history!

Finally, in RE, we spent time reflecting on what we are grateful for and shared some really thoughtful ideas.

A fantastic start to the half term, Year 1 - well done everyone!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
