What a busy and exciting week we’ve had in Year One! The children are now well into their independent writing and have been working incredibly hard on their animal fact files. We’ve been focusing on using capital letters at the start of each sentence and remembering those all-important finger spaces. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow as young writers.

With Advent upon us, a little festive sparkle has started creeping into the classroom. The children have thoroughly enjoyed practising for their Christmas service, and they are doing brilliantly at remembering their lines and movements as we journey together through the Nativity story. This has linked beautifully with our RE learning on gift giving, helping us understand why Christian people give gifts at Christmas. Many children already knew it was to celebrate Jesus’ birthday - we were very impressed with their knowledge!

We also had a special treat on Friday with a sneak preview of the Year Two nativity performance. The children loved it and it has made us even more excited for the celebrations ahead.

Looking ahead to next week, we are very excited to share everything the children have been working so hard on as we lead our Christmas Church service on Wednesday 10th December. We warmly welcome those who are able to join us. 1MP will be leading from 9:20-9:50, followed by 1H from 10:00–10:30 (approximately). The children can’t wait to show you their wonderful work and bring the Nativity story to life!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
