Year 1 Blog 03.10.25

Date: 5th Oct 2025 @ 5:27pm

We’ve enjoyed another brilliant autumnal week in Year 1! The rain certainly didn’t stop us - we embraced the weather with plenty of outdoor learning and shelter building to keep us dry.

In English, we began our new focus text, Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival. The children have been exploring how Norman felt when he suddenly grew wings and tried to hide them under a big coat. They came up with fantastic vocabulary to describe his feelings and thoughts.

In Maths, we’ve been learning about part-whole models and number sentences, showing how numbers can be split and combined in different ways.

In Geography, we discovered how maps help us find direction. The children used compasses and created their own maps from their beds to their front doors, including a key with symbols.

During Outdoor PE, we practised our dodging skills, weaving our way through imaginary “Spidey webs” - great fun and teamwork all round!

In RE, we discussed what Christians believe about God, thinking about how some people can ‘see’ things in their minds and hearts that they can’t see with their eyes.

We’re looking forward to our autumn walk to Church on Monday morning to watch the brilliant Year 3 deliver their Harvest Service. All children should arrive in PE kit as usual. Please ensure your child brings a waterproof coat as we’ll be walking rain or shine!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
