Year 1 Weekly Blog

We have had another lovely week in Year 1 and the children have been working really hard across all areas of their learning. We have also been so lucky with the gorgeous autumnal weather this week, and we are very excited to be heading into one of our favourite seasons in school!

In English, we continued our own writing based on the story Ruby’s Worry. The children thought about what helps Ruby to feel better, practised using 'because' in their sentences and wrote some lovely ideas about what they could say to help Ruby. We have also been checking our writing carefully to make sure our sentences make sense and include capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In Maths, we have been counting backwards within 10 and comparing groups and numbers using words such as 'more', 'fewer' and 'the same'. We also began exploring 'greater than', 'less than' and 'equal to' and enjoyed some fun independent addition activities in the classrooms.

In Science, we used our senses to investigate mystery objects and had lots of fun designing and making our own smoothies. The children thought carefully about which ingredients they would choose and what their smoothie might taste and look like.

In Geography, we explored bird’s-eye views, in Computing we practised logging into the Chromebooks, and in Art we created continuous line drawings. In PE, we worked on balance and moving carefully along different pathways, and in RE we began thinking about the question, “What does The Bible teach Christian people about God?”

We are really proud of another fantastic week of learning. Well done, Year 1!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
