This week in Year 1 has been full of lovely learning and wonderful moments!
We started the week with our class photos on Monday. The children looked incredibly smart and did us all proud with how sensible they were, carefully listening to and following the photographer’s instructions. Well done, everyone!
In English, we have finished writing our second set of instructions on how to catch a troll! The children thought carefully about the materials they would need to build a strong cage and came up with some very tempting treats to lure the troll in. We are very excited for our next piece of writing, when we will take inspiration from Jack and the Beanstalk to write instructions on how to catch a giant!
In Maths, the children have been building on their understanding of equal groups over the past few weeks, which has really helped them as we move on to fractions. This week, we have been learning about halves and quarters by sharing objects into equal parts. The children have been using important mathematical language such as “equal parts,” “halves,” and “quarters,” and have been practising spotting when parts are equal or not equal, helping them decide whether something can be called a half or a quarter.
In Science, we have been exploring wild and garden plants. The children have enjoyed learning how to identify different types and have looked closely at the details of plants, while practising naming their different parts.
In PSHE, we discussed what to do if we get lost, sharing ideas during circle time about how to stay safe.
We are also continuing our big push on phonics ahead of the screening check in June. The children are making great progress. Please keep practising at home as it really helps build their confidence and love of reading!
Have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing the children back to school on Tuesday.
