What a spectacular and action-packed week we have had in Year 5!
Our absolute highlight was our incredible Maya Day, which was a huge success. The children were completely immersed in Mayan culture through a series of drama activities. We explored everything from the dramatic history of human sacrifices to the much sweeter tradition of making Mayan chocolate. Parents will be pleased to hear that despite the dramatic sacrifice reenactments, we still had all the children safely with us by the end of the day!
In maths, we have moved onto our new topic of addition and subtraction. The children have been working hard to apply their existing mathematical knowledge to much larger numbers, showing great resilience as the concepts challenge them.
Over in English, we completed our recent poetry unit. The children produced some truly wonderful poems, and we were incredibly proud of the creativity and effort they poured into their writing. Looking ahead to next week, we will be starting a brand new English unit on Monday based on a beautiful short film called 'The Present' by Jacob Frey.
We also had some lovely community moments this week. On Tuesday, we shared a wonderful Harvest service alongside Year 3, celebrating the season together. Following that, on Thursday, Year 5 led a brilliant assembly focused on the important value of respect, delivering their messages clearly and thoughtfully to the school.
Finally, it is time for our weekly competition updates. A massive congratulations to 5H, who have claimed the title of top Doodlers once again! Keep up the amazing effort. The Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) league was also officially up and running this week. The competition is fierce, so please encourage your child to log on this weekend to help get your class score up.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope you all have a wonderful weekend

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
