Y5 blog 4.7.25

Date: 4th Jul 2025 @ 2:24pm

Welcome to this week's Year 5 Blog.

The last few weeks of Year 5 seem to whizzing by… and what busy weeks they are.

The week started with our fabulous sports day where the children had a fantastic time supporting each other ad taking part in multiple events. Win or lose, great fun was had by all.

In English, we finished our build up to writing based o the short animation “The Piano.” We have been so impressed with the way the children have made the writing their own ad can’t wait to read their independent pieces next week.

In maths we have focussed on area and perimeter this week, including working out missing sides of composite rectangles and squares in order to work their area and perimeter. Next week we move on to volume.

In computing, we continued programming our crumbles to light up and flash, troubleshooting and debugging when needed.

In games we have had lots of fun playing small sided games of cricket, putting in to practice all our batting and fielding skills. In PE we have been, using maths and orienteering, following maps of the netball court.

This week we started our music unit on the blues, listening to a few pieces to get in to the groove before singing along to the piece Lisa Simpson blues, from The Simpsons.

The week culminated with buddy time, where it was lovely to have some end of year free time with our buddies with a focus on fun and friendship.

Thank you also to Felix, an x St. Luke’s pupil who returned to us for work experience.

Have a lovely weekend

The Year 5 Team. J

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
