A Wonderful End to the Spring Term!
As we wrap up the spring term, we want to take a moment to celebrate all the amazing Reception children who have worked so hard and made it to the end of term. You've done a fantastic job, and we hope you enjoy a well-deserved and restful break. Our warmest wishes for a happy Easter to all!
It's been a lovely week, filled with lots of fun and learning. Here's a look at some of the highlights:
Meeting Our New Experts
On Monday, the children were introduced to some new "experts" in the classroom. We love seeing their curiosity spark when they meet new ideas and concepts!
We've had such a busy and exciting week! On Monday, we were joined by our two new experts for the week. In Sand Dunes Classroom, we had Raph, and in Pinewoods Classroom, we had Willow. It was great to see them both! In Pinewoods Willow enjoyed teaching the children all about her love of Princesses and dogs. Over in Sand Dunes classroom the focus moved to Raph; the children have learnt so much about his love of superheroes, we learnt about different skills we all have and how we are all special. The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things when we are back.
Easter and Eid Celebrations
On Tuesday, the children rounded up their learning about the Easter story in preparation for Thursday’s Easter service. We also explored the celebration of Eid, where the children were fascinated by the traditions of fasting and the phrase "Eid Mubarak." They particularly enjoyed creating beautiful henna designs and learning about how different cultures around the world celebrate.
Learning About Growing
Wednesday was all about growth! The children had the opportunity to plant their very own peas inside a handmade greenhouse. Each child designed and created a small house for their pea, soaking cotton wool and placing their peas inside "sleeping bags" before sealing them in sandwich bags. We're excited to see the progress of these little plants when we return after the break!
A Sunshine Walk to Church
Thursday was a bright and sunny day, perfect for our walk to church to enjoy the Year 4 buddies’ Easter service. We were so proud of how beautifully they spoke and how well they told the Easter story to such a large audience. On our walk, we also enjoyed spotting the signs of spring with Year 3—what a wonderful way to celebrate the season!
In our maths sessions this week, we have been practising seeing ‘5 and a bit’ on ten frames, for numbers from 6-9. The children have been finessing their ‘finger-gnosis’, why don’t you see what your child can show you with their fingers.
The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.
A big thank you to our Secret Story Tellers this week, we love having you come into school and share your favourite stories. The children love it too. Please speak to a member of the team if you’d like to get involved in sharing the joy of reading with our youngest of children.
Looking Ahead…
When we return after Easter, we’ll continue our exploration of growing and lifecycles. We can't wait to see the children's enthusiasm as they discover more about the world around them.
A Quick Reminder
Before you head off for the holidays, don’t forget to empty those book bags and return any spare clothes in preparation for warmer weather.
Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]
Have a wonderful break, and we look forward to seeing you all after half term.
