Friday already! Can you believe how quickly the week has flown by?
It’s been another week full of learning, discovery, and exciting new experiences for our little ones. Here's a recap of everything we've been up to:
Tadpoles Galore! - On Tuesday, the children arrived at school to a delightful surprise—teeny tiny tadpoles in our fish tank! We’re already diving into the fascinating world of frog life cycles. The children have loved observing the tadpoles as their little legs begin to grow, eagerly awaiting their transformation into froglets. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll continue watching their progress before we return them to the pond where they belong. It’s such a wonderful hands-on way to learn about nature!
Welcome to Our New Experts! - We also welcomed Albie and Luna, our two newest experts! These little learners have already brought so much excitement and energy to our classroom, and we’re thrilled to have them as part of the team. In Sand Dunes Classroom, we had Luna, and in Pinewoods Classroom, we had Albie. Luna taught us all about her love of camping with her family, we have thoroughly enjoyed making our own campsites and campfires, we even enjoyed a yummy hot chocolate on Friday. Albie was excited to share his footballing and bike riding expertise, he was so excited to teach the children all about Dubai and London, which are special places to him and his family! The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things when we are back on Monday.
Learning About the Number 12 - On Wednesday, we continued our exploration of the number 12. The children have been busy learning that 12 is made up of 10 and 2 and have spent time splitting it into two equal parts—6 and 6. It’s been a great opportunity for them to practice their math skills in a hands-on way. Over the weekend, we’d love for you to spot something 12-related in the world around you! Can you find the number 12 on a door, a bus, or a train? Share your discoveries with us as Good News!
VE Day – 80 Years On - Thursday marked a very special occasion as we commemorated the 80th Anniversary of VE Day. The children paid their respects by visiting our WW2 Museum, set up right in the school library. They explored artefacts, books, medals, and pictures from over 80 years ago, getting a real sense of what life might have been like during World War II. It was such a meaningful experience for the children to learn about history in this way.
Secret Storyteller – We wrapped up the week with a very special visit from our Secret Storyteller, the one and only Miss O'Neill! The children were absolutely captivated by the story she shared. It was an engaging, magical experience that held their attention from beginning to end.
What’s Next? Looking ahead to next week, we’re excited to explore the number 13 and welcome Assistance Dog Glen and his owner, John. It’s going to be a week full of learning and new experiences!
Many of the children have now been taught the Set 2 special friends, please watch the video via this link, learning Set 2 special friend ‘igh’, the children follow the same structure in their reading and writing lessons. Therefore, the more you can encourage your child to spot the special friend before reading the word, the more confident they will be in reading words with these sounds in.

The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.
As the weather is getting warmer, please consider applying a long-lasting sun cream before your child comes to school. The children are reminded daily to wear their sunhats outside, when the sun is shining!
Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]
We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! Stay tuned for more updates next week.
