Welcome back everyone – we hope you had a really restful half term. The children have returned and they are ready to go!
On Wednesday, we welcomed two new children to enjoy their special week as the "expert in their field." In Sand Dunes classroom, Bella taught us all about her love of arts and crafts, she dazzled us with her skills and the children were delighted to see all Bella’s creations from home, including a spectacular tie-dye! In Pinewoods, Amelie shared all about her love of Barbie and playing families. Amelie helped us foster the love of reading this week, we have had a special focus on paper dolls by Julia Donaldson. The children were fascinated to learnt that Barbie was created due to a little girl who loved playing with paper dolls!
We really enjoy exploring each other’s interests, and we can’t wait to learn more when we return on Monday.
This week in maths, we were introduced to our Rekenreks for the first time, the children have learnt how to ‘reset’ them and have their Rekenreks at the ready to ‘one push’ a certain number.
The children met with Georgia on Friday, a student Midwife. They learnt more about how Midwives care for women and help babies come into the world safely. The children asked some amazing questions. Georgia taught us all about weighing babies and how we care for them. You are a real-life superhero, Georgia. Thank you so much for your time!
We ended the week with a lovely visit from our Secret Storyteller. The children loved hearing two new stories that sparked lots of excitement about reading. If you'd like to be a Secret Storyteller and come in to read to the class, please get in touch with us at [email protected]
The children have now been taught all of the Set 2 special friends in phonics. Please continue to support this learning at home. You can watch this short video that introduces the sound ‘oo’ look at a book.

Thank you for all the wonderful entries we’ve seen so far in our Reading Scrapbook. It’s such a great way for children to share their favourite books and develop a love for reading. Please help your child complete one page – it could be a short review, a drawing, a picture of the cover, or even a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine and return it in the canvas bag so we can pass it on to the next child.
We love hearing about all the great things the children are doing outside of school. Please keep sending us your good news – big or small – so we can celebrate it together in class. Email us at [email protected]
See you on Monday,
The Reception Team
