Happy Friday, everyone!
We have had such a lovely and busy week in Reception!
We were excited to welcome our new Experts of the Week. Max in Sand Dunes shared his wonderful knowledge about his love of dogs, and Truly in Pinewoods taught us all about wild animals. Both children really inspired us, and their interests sparked lots of conversations about caring for animals and even becoming vets one day!
On Monday, we learned all about Saint David's Day. The children explored beautiful daffodils and created their own through painting and drawing. We also looked at the different ways the day is celebrated across Wales, learning about this special Welsh celebration.
On Tuesday, we marked World Wildlife Day. We had a lovely morning discussing how we can help look after wildlife in our local area and around the world. The children shared some fantastic ideas about caring for animals and protecting their habitats. There are lots of simple things you can do at home too – take a look here: https://www.wwf.org.uk/world-wildlife-day
In the afternoon, we continued our learning about Easter. We explored the important Christian story of Jesus’ last meal with his disciples. On Holy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter), Christians remember the Last Supper, when Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples. The children were very thoughtful when learning about how Jesus washed his disciples’ feet – they found it surprising that someone they saw as an important king would choose to serve others in such a humble way.
On Wednesday, we learned all about Holi. The children absolutely loved discovering that Holi is a Hindu festival celebrating spring, love and new life. Known as the Festival of Colours, it marks the end of winter and the arrival of spring. We learned how families may celebrate with religious ceremonies, dancing, singing, and by throwing brightly coloured powder paint and water. In provision, we had lots of fun experimenting with powder paints, pens and watercolours to create our own colourful masterpieces!
On Thursday, we were delighted to celebrate World Book Day. The children looked incredible and put so much effort into their cosy outfits and costumes! We spent the day sharing stories, talking about our favourite books and enjoying a lovely book swap. We even had a special breakfast with toast to celebrate our love of reading together.
Today, we spent time preparing for our exciting Guide Dog visit next week. We can’t wait to welcome John and Glen into school to talk to us about the important role of assistance dogs and how they help people in their daily lives.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone! Please don’t forget to share your good news with us by emailing [email protected] – no matter how big or small, we love to celebrate it with you.
Take care,
The Reception Team
