July already? How time has flown…
On Monday, we welcomed two new children to enjoy their special week as the "expert in their field." In Sand Dunes classroom, Ava taught us all about her love of animals, specifically giraffes and her love of visiting the zoo and safari park to learn more about these wonderful creatures. In Pinewoods, the focus turned to Hugo whose special interests was football, quad bikes and his Dad’s previous job… The Royal Navy. The children have fully embraced the interests of their friends and they can’t wait to explore others’ interests next week.
Have a good look through all of our photos below, the children have been SO busy!
We are so incredibly proud of how well the children took part in their first Primary School Sports Day. They all showed a positive attitude and so much resilience if things were a little tricky. There was so much talent on display on Wednesday – we definitely have some future athletes in our midst.
Our learning all about lifecycles is drawing to a close as we released the butterflies on Friday to their new homes in the wild, to start the process of metamorphosis all over again. As well as our gorgeous tadpoles and froglets – we have loved watching them grow but it is time for them to go back to their pond. We certainly will not forget them and their amazing features.
As we approach the final weeks of term, we would love to have the last few Secret Storytellers come and pay us a visit. If you'd like to be a Secret Storyteller and come in to read to the class, please get in touch with us at [email protected]
The children have now been taught all of the Set 2 special friends in phonics. Please continue to support this learning at home. You can watch this short video that introduces the sound “ir whirl and twirl”.

Encouraging your child to spot the special friend in a word before sounding it out will really help build their confidence. We have also been talking a lot about ‘speedy reading’, we are really encouraging our children to ‘Fred in their head’ and say these words with increasing speed and accuracy.
Thank you for all the wonderful entries we’ve seen so far in our Reading Scrapbook. It’s such a great way for children to share their favourite books and develop a love for reading. Please help your child complete one page – it could be a short review, a drawing, a picture of the cover, or even a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine and return it in the canvas bag so we can pass it on to the next child.
We love hearing about all the great things the children are doing outside of school. Please keep sending us your good news – big or small – so we can celebrate it together in class. Email us at [email protected]
See you next week,
The Reception Team
