Reception Weekly Blog (3.10.25)

Date: 3rd Oct 2025 @ 3:08pm

Another fun week, embracing all that life in Reception has to offer! We hope you enjoy looking through the photos below.

This week we have been busy learning five new sounds: c, k, u, b, f. You can find a video link that helps us practise how to pronounce each sound correctly just below. Please do keep practising letter formation at home, using the formation phrases from the sheets we have sent home – it really makes a big difference.

We also sent an email to you on Wednesday this week, it contains the next 5 ‘Fred Games’ which play an essential part in your child’s reading journey.

Do not hesitate to stop one of us if you need any support or guidance.

On Monday, we continued exploring our autumn treasure and made even more wonderful discoveries. The children spoke about the animals we might see during the autumn season, with a special focus on hedgehogs. We also talked about a very important festival at this time of year – the Harvest Festival.

On Tuesday, our Harvest learning was in full swing. The children reflected on all the things we are grateful for during autumn time. We then learnt about the journey of bread, from field to table. Everyone had a turn at mixing, pouring, and kneading the dough before shaping it into little hedgehogs. Using scissors, the children carefully snipped spikes and added two raisins for eyes. They looked fantastic – and we hope they were enjoyed at home (or in the ROLA).

On Wednesday, we looked more closely at the parts of a windmill and discovered how the mill grinds freshly picked grain. Our discussions also turned to the wide variety of fruit and vegetables that are harvested at this time of year. The children showed great interest and had lots of thoughtful ideas to share.

We were also very lucky to fit in some buddy time ahead of our special walk to church next Monday. We shared stories and played in our classrooms, the children were delighted to share their learning with their friends!

On Thursday, our focus turned to farm machines. The children were fascinated by how they help farmers during harvest time. Taking this into their play, they worked together to build their very own tractor outside using tyres and the construction shed – a fantastic example of creativity and teamwork!

The children had some really nice, thoughtful ideas about how we could come together to show thanks during this Harvest Festival. We spoke about the tins and packets of food we may have in our homes, and bringing them in to make a display at church.

On Friday, we enjoyed learning more about St. Luke’s Church and how we will join together to sing songs there on Monday. The children thought carefully about walking with their buddies, sitting together on the pews, and being respectful during our visit. We are very excited to meet Reverend Matt and to take part in the Harvest celebration.

It has been a wonderful week filled with learning, creativity, and reflection. We are looking forward to our Harvest walk to church on Monday and exploring all things ‘Harvest’ next week.

Have a good rest this weekend, it is definitely needed!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
