Reception Weekly Blog

A fantastic week had by all, we can’t believe how fast the weeks are going by.

On Monday, we had a nice warm welcome back after a rainy weekend! The children settled in beautifully and were thrilled to explore new role-play opportunities. Our classrooms became a busy animal care centre as the children learned all about the role of a vet and the many ways we can help look after animals. Sand Dunes classroom turned the focus back to police officers and how they help us.

On Tuesday, we continued our learning about the number 5, exploring how smaller numbers can be found “hiding” inside it. We carried this into our outdoor play with a fun-filled game of hide and seek—perfect for reinforcing our learning while keeping active. The children furthered their learning later on in the week, when we introduced them to ‘dice games’, they loved using the dice in their play. Why don’t you get your dice out at home, roll it, and do so many actions for the number it lands on. We enjoyed 6 jumps, 5 claps, 4 hops etc.

On Wednesday, we learned more about police officers and how they keep us safe and care for our community. We also focused on enhancing our scissor skills, practising how to hold scissors correctly, make careful snips in paper, and follow lines in different directions.

On Thursday, our community heroes theme continued as we learned about dentists and how they help keep our bodies healthy. Together, we created a brilliant bank of questions we would ask a dentist—showing just how curious and thoughtful the children are about this important job.

Finally, on Friday… a highlight of the week was a visit from a real dentist! The children listened attentively and impressed us with their confident questions and growing knowledge about how to look after their teeth. Each child has brought home a new toothbrush and toothpaste so they can put their new tooth-care skills into practice.

We also spent the afternoon talking about St. Andrews Day, the children are excited to talk to you about shortbread biscuits and bagpipes!

Next week, we’re excited to meet number 6! The children have been absolutely loving our number work and continually impress us with the different ways they recognise and explore each new number.

As we move a little closer to Christmas, we will also begin learning about Advent. We’re very much looking forward to hearing our friends sing and sharing cookies with our buddies next week.

We absolutely love sharing your good news. Please email us at [email protected] with any updates, no matter how big or small – we always enjoy hearing from you.

See you on Monday,
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
