Another week of fun!
We hope you enjoy looking through the photos below, this week has been full of exciting learning opportunities and lots of fun as we continued to explore the world around us.
This week we have been busy learning five new sounds: i, n, p, g, o. You can find a video link that helps us practise how to pronounce each sound correctly just below. Please do keep practising letter formation at home, using the formation phrases from the sheets we have sent home – it really makes a big difference.

Please also refer to the email we sent to you on Wednesday this week, it contains 5 ‘Fred Games’ which play an essential part in your child’s reading journey. We have also popped a ‘Fred Games’ sheet into your child’s reading folder to give you some inspiration… you can ‘Fred’ any word!
Do not hesitate to stop one of us if you need any support or guidance.
On Monday, we introduced positional language to the children through stories such as Rosie’s Walk and What the Ladybird Heard. These books helped us to embed the language in a meaningful way. We also looked closely at maps to see where we belong, focusing on Jubilee Road and nearby places in Formby. The children enjoyed sharing about the different types of homes they live in and noticing how they are all special in their own ways.
On Tuesday, the children had the chance to draw their own homes. They loved teaching their friends about the best parts of where they live and celebrating what makes each home unique.
On Wednesday, the sunshine gave us the perfect opportunity to get outside and build our muscles using tyres and balls. These activities are not only fun but also help strengthen the children’s bodies in preparation for their writing skills.
On Thursday, we revisited the topic of maps. The children had a wonderful time creating their very own simple maps, practising their new positional language as they went along. The children enjoyed playing games together in provision using the language we heard in the stories.
Finally, on Friday, we ended the week with some autumn-inspired fun! The children explored their autumn treasure, experimenting with pipes and soft bricks to create tunnels and slides for the treasure to travel down. This creative play was a fantastic introduction to our upcoming learning on the seasons and Harvest.
It has been a busy and enjoyable week in Reception, and we are very excited to continue our seasonal adventures next week.
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Reception Team
