Reception Weekly Blog (26.6.26)

Date: 26th Jun 2026 @ 1:47pm

Happy Friday, everyone!

What a hot and sticky week! The children have been amazing and have coped so well with the rising temperatures. We have kept them cool with endless ice pops and our cold paddling pools, which have been a huge hit!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have explored the numbers 16, 17, 18 and 19. The children have learnt where these numbers belong on a number line and how they are made using one ten and the extra ones. They have also explored one more and one less with numbers to 19. The children are looking forward to learning all about the number 20 on Monday!

Literacy

In Literacy, we have enjoyed practising those longer words that you all have at home. The children are becoming much more confident at sounding them out and tweaking the sounds to make sure the word sounds right.

We will soon be carrying out our end-of-year assessments for the Year 1 team in preparation for September. Please continue practising Set 2 Special Friends and reading them accurately within words.

Please also continue practising your 1.1–1.7 speedy reading words using the following steps:

  1. Read the word using Fred in your Head.
  2. Read the word speedily (almost by sight).

If you need any help with this or would like a demonstration, please come and see a member of the Reception team.

Our Experts

Throughout the week, we have learnt from our two new experts!

In Sand Dunes, Amy taught us all about her love of cycling and the skills she needs to enjoy scenic bike rides with her family. She wowed us all with her fantastic cycling skills on Thursday!

In Pinewoods, Ivy shared her love of princesses and, of course, ballroom dancing. Ivy has really come into her own this week, confidently demonstrating her talent, confidence and plenty of sass! The children loved being the judges, and we're convinced one of them will be appearing on Strictly Come Dancing one day!

Our Caterpillars

We are eagerly awaiting our caterpillars' transformation into beautiful butterflies. They are all safely tucked away in their chrysalises now. We've left sugar water and fresh fruit ready for them should they emerge over the weekend.

Transition to Year 1

The children were absolutely delighted to find out who their Year 1 teacher will be! They spent the morning with their new class and came home with a special bag to fill over the summer holidays. Please keep it somewhere safe and add to it whenever you can.

The Year 1 team commented on the children's fantastic listening skills, excellent communication and how well they settled into their new classrooms. We couldn't be prouder!

Have an amazing weekend! We are so excited for Sports Day next week—let's hope for plenty of sunshine but slightly cooler temperatures!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
