Welcome back!
It has been absolutely wonderful to welcome the children back to school this week. They have returned refreshed and full of enthusiasm, ready to embrace everything the summer term has to offer.
We've had a busy first week back! On Monday, we were joined by our two new experts for the week. We love seeing their curiosity spark when they meet new ideas and concepts! In Sand Dunes Classroom, we had Clemmie, and in Pinewoods Classroom, we had Abel. Clemmie taught us all about Andy and the odd socks band as well as her love for skateboarding. The children were keen to learn more about her skills and even wanted to have a go themselves. Abel was excited to share the news of his new baby sister who arrived over half term, as well as his love of golf and frogs! The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things when we are back.
In our maths sessions, we’ve been consolidating our understanding of numbers to 10 and practising counting backwards to 0. As we prepare to meet the teen numbers, it’s essential that children develop accuracy and speed in recognising numbers 1–10 with confidence.
We’ve loved hearing all about the children’s half-term adventures, especially their special place photos. These have sparked some wonderful conversations, and we’ll continue to explore this theme next week. The children have really enjoyed sharing why these places are meaningful to them. We’re especially looking forward to our visit to St. Luke’s Church with Rev. Matt next Wednesday as part of this exploration.
This week, we also learned about the lifecycle of a frog—from tiny eggs to fully grown frogs, and how the cycle begins again. The children were fascinated by the different stages, and we’re hoping to spot some frogspawn in our garden soon!
A key part of the Early Years Foundation Stage is learning about the changes we see in our natural world. Why not take some time this weekend to go on a nature walk and observe plants and animals in your local area? We’d love to hear about what you discover, especially as we dive into Eddie’s interest in bees next week!
Many of the children have now been taught the Set 2 special friends, please watch the video via this link of Matthew and Maya, learning Set 2 special friend ‘ay’, the children follow the same structure in their reading and writing lessons. Therefore, the more you can encourage your child to spot the special friend before reading the word, the more confident they will be in reading words with these sounds in.
The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.
A big thank you to our Secret Story Tellers this week, we love having you come into school and share your favourite stories. The book choices were a huge hit this week! The children love it too. Please speak to a member of the team if you’d like to get involved in sharing the joy of reading with our youngest of children.
As the weather is getting warmer, please consider applying a long-lasting sun cream before your child comes to school. The children are reminded daily to wear their sunhats outside, when the sun is shining!
Please also note our Reception uniform for Summer, is a St Luke’s light blue polo shirt, navy blue shorts with grey, navy or white socks with velcro trainers. Summer dresses can be worn from Y1 onwards. Thank you
Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Reception Team
