What a gorgeous week we’ve had!
Sunshine and smiles all around—how lucky are we?

Monday kicked off with excitement as we met our new experts, setting the tone for an inspiring week. In Sand Dunes Classroom, we had Eddie, and in Pinewoods Classroom, we had Ellie. Eddie taught us all about his love of helping his Grandpa in the garden looking after Bees and the flowers. The children were keen to learn all about these helpful insects and how they help make the delicious honey we have on our snack table. Ellie was excited to share her hairdressing expertise, she loves to braid and put bobble in hair! The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things when we are back on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, we got ready for our special trip to St. Luke’s Church, talking about special places and what they mean to us.

Wednesday brought a beautiful sunshine walk to church. Every time we take these walks, our children amaze us with their maturity and curiosity. Their thoughtful questions about the world around them always leave us smiling.

During our tour, Rev. Matt shared the story of Formby’s oldest stone—the God Stone. It features a circle (representing heaven), some steps (earth), and the cross (Jesus). Thought to date back to Viking times, the stone symbolises the Christian belief that trusting in Jesus is the first step toward reaching heaven.

As the temperature soared in the afternoon, we cooled off with a relaxing ROLA foot spa and refreshing lemon and cucumber water. To top it all off, we enjoyed ice pops in the sunshine—thank you, Mrs. McGill!

On Thursday, our expert Ellie helped us make our own pizzas! The children loved sharing their favourite toppings and learning about each other’s likes and dislikes.

Friday was all about wrapping up our learning on the number 11. We’ve been so impressed by how well the children are conceptually subitising—splitting 11 into smaller groups to build a strong foundation for number bonds up to 20. We’re excited to explore number 12 next week!

Many of the children have now been taught the Set 2 special friends, please watch the video via this link of Matthew and Zayn, learning Set 2 special friend ‘ee’, the children follow the same structure in their reading and writing lessons. Therefore, the more you can encourage your child to spot the special friend before reading the word, the more confident they will be in reading words with these sounds in.

The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.

A big thank you to our Secret Story Tellers this week, we love having you come into school and share your favourite stories. The book choices were a huge hit this week! The children love it too. Please speak to a member of the team if you’d like to get involved in sharing the joy of reading with our youngest of children.

As the weather is getting warmer, please consider applying a long-lasting sun cream before your child comes to school. The children are reminded daily to wear their sunhats outside, when the sun is shining!

Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]

Enjoy looking through all the photographs from this sunny, smile-filled week.

Have a wonderful weekend!
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
