Happy Half Term everyone!

We hope you all have a very well-deserved break and we look forward to seeing you again when we return in June.

On Monday, we met our final two experts of the first summer term. Annabelle taught us all about her love of Paddington Bear and her fantastic knowledge of the stories and characters kept us entertained all week! The children loved learning about London as well as discovering different types of bears from around the world. Over in Pinewoods, we had the best week learning how to relax with Flo! The children thoroughly enjoyed our role play “St. Luke’s Spa” and explored different ways we can help ourselves to feel calm and relaxed.

On Tuesday, the children learned how to write and make postcards. We talked about the different features of a postcard and discussed how amazing modern technology is, allowing postcards and messages to be sent all around the world.

On Wednesday, we loved taking part in our school challenges for National Numeracy Day. This annual UK-wide campaign helps both adults and children improve their everyday maths and number confidence. The children spent the afternoon with their buddies orienteering around the playground and working together to solve the maths challenges.

On Thursday, we spoke about capital cities and different locations around the world, including places Paddington Bear has visited, as well as the different places our children have lived in or travelled to on holiday. It was wonderful hearing all about their experiences and adventures.

On Friday, we rounded up all of our maths learning from this week. We have been fine tuning our skills in grouping and sharing, carefully working out how we can split odd and even numbers into different groups. The children showed fantastic perseverance and teamwork throughout the activities.

It was so nice to see so many children enjoying the school disco, many red faces and neon outfits enjoying the music and dancing!

As the weather gets warmer, we are hoping to supply the children with lots of refreshing snacks. As our snack money runs dry we would be really appreciative of any contributions as we approach the second half of the summer term. Thank you in anticipation!

We cannot wait to meet our two new experts when we return after the half term break and continue our learning together. We also cannot quite believe that we are approaching our final term of Reception! It feels like only yesterday those tiny little children walked through our doors for the very first time.

We would love to hear and see your good news over the holidays. Please email us at [email protected] if there is anything you would like to share from your half term break — no matter how big or small!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
