What a wonderful week,

On Monday, we welcomed two new children to enjoy their special week as the "expert in their field." In Sand Dunes classroom, Titus taught us all about Poland and his love of dragons. The children have been captivated by the stories Titus has told and the information he can share about the fantastic places he has visited in Poland. We thoroughly enjoyed reading the Wowel (pronounced Vavel) Dragon with Titus’ Dad and we were inspired to draw our own! In Pinewoods, the focus turned to Claudia and Oliver whose special interest were Nature and being in the outdoors. The children were ecstatic on Monday when teeny tiny caterpillars arrived in our classroom, the children have enjoyed tracking the progress and are eagerly watching them grown and evolve. We really enjoy exploring each other’s interests, and we can’t wait to learn more when we return on Monday.

This week was ‘Arts Week’, and what a week it has been! We started the week with an amazing dance lesson – the children learnt the moves to ‘this is the greatest show’, from The Greatest Showman movie. On Wednesday, the children learnt to words to a beautiful song called ‘a million dreams’, accompanied by fantastic actions. All in preparation for a heart-warming, whole school sing a long with our wonderful choir on Friday. A huge thank you to Cath at Last Act and her wonderful team. The children LOVED it.

We have had a very exciting week tracking the progress of the chicks, caterpillars and tadpoles. The caterpillars are coming along nicely and the children have learnt about metamorphosis. The chicks have grown, their feathers are dry and fluffy and they are making lots of mess, the children loved going to see them as last time some of the eggs hadn’t hatched! The tadpoles are coming along swimmingly, we have even seen the little tadpole with legs turn into a froglet, he has lost his tail and has 4 legs now, he is enjoying being perched upon a rock and dipping into the water when he wants to.

Whilst on the ‘growing’ theme, the children enjoyed harvesting the potatoes that have been busy multiplying over the last few months. We worked together to count, sort and wash the potatoes, we harvested over 250 and enjoyed them at snack time on Friday. On Thursday the children each had the opportunity to plant a sunflower seed and they are so excited to watch them grow and talk about how we can care for them before they head home to grow over the summer holidays.

As we approach the final weeks of term, we would love to have the last few Secret Storytellers come and pay us a visit. If you'd like to be a Secret Storyteller and come in to read to the class, please get in touch with us at [email protected]

The children have now been taught all of the Set 2 special friends in phonics. Please continue to support this learning at home. You can watch this short video that introduces the sound “or shut the door”.

Encouraging your child to spot the special friend in a word before sounding it out will really help build their confidence.

Thank you for all the wonderful entries we’ve seen so far in our Reading Scrapbook. It’s such a great way for children to share their favourite books and develop a love for reading. Please help your child complete one page – it could be a short review, a drawing, a picture of the cover, or even a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine and return it in the canvas bag so we can pass it on to the next child.

We love hearing about all the great things the children are doing outside of school. Please keep sending us your good news – big or small – so we can celebrate it together in class. Email us at [email protected]

See you next week, enjoy the sunshine!
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
