Reception Weekly Blog (20.03.26)

Date: 20th Mar 2026 @ 12:41pm

This week in Reception has been full of exciting learning, creativity, and special experiences!

We began by introducing our two new Experts of the Week. Vince taught us all about lions, sharing fascinating facts, while Luciana spoke confidently about Disneyland, sparking lots of interest and enthusiasm among the children.

On Monday, we took part in a fantastic Virtual Reality (VR) workshop where the children explored the world of mini beasts and learned about lifecycles. It was an engaging and immersive experience that brought our learning to life in a truly memorable way.

Tuesday was packed with celebrations and creativity. We learned all about St. Patrick’s Day, where the children enjoyed dancing and crafting beautiful shamrocks using collage paper. We also explored Easter traditions from around the world. The children learned that an egg is a symbol of new life and, for Christians, Easter eggs represent the resurrection of Jesus. Christians believe that through his resurrection, Jesus overcame death and sin, offering the promise of eternal life to those who follow his teachings.

We discussed how, today, it is common to give chocolate eggs, take part in Easter egg hunts, and hear stories about the Easter Bunny. In some traditions, children leave out empty baskets at night for the Easter Bunny to fill while they sleep. We made sure to highlight that all families celebrate differently, and we are simply exploring some of the many traditions observed around the world. To top off the day, we had a fantastic time in the hall watching and participating in a fun and interactive science show—be sure to check out the photos below!

On Wednesday, we welcomed a very special visitor—a local estate agent—who spoke to the children about the process of moving house. The children were full of curiosity, asking thoughtful questions such as “What is an estate agent?” and “What do they do?” It was a wonderful opportunity to connect learning to real-life experiences.

Thursday was dedicated to learning about Eid. We explored how special this celebration is to people around the world and to many members of our own school community. The children showed great respect and interest as they learned about the traditions and significance of this important festival.

On Friday, we came together to celebrate Red Nose Day, enjoying the fun while supporting a good cause. We also marked the first day of Spring! The children impressed us with their knowledge of the seasons and were excited to share the signs of spring they have already noticed around them. We enjoyed some overdue Buddy Time on Friday afternoon in the sunshine.

In Maths this week our focus turned to complex patterns, the children took an active role in their learning by creating their own patterns. Next week, we look forward to learning all about the Number 11.

We are now looking forward to our Easter Services in church next week as we approach the end of the Spring Term.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone—we look forward to seeing you on Monday for another week full of fun and learning! Please don’t forget to share your good news with us by emailing [email protected] – no matter how big or small, we love to celebrate it with you.

Take care,
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
