What a great week in Reception!

We’ve had such a wonderful week in Reception, full of fun, learning and smiles. Take a look through our photos to see some of the highlights!

This week we have been busy learning five new sounds: m, a, s, d, t. You can find a video link that helps us practise how to pronounce each sound correctly just below. Please do keep practising letter formation at home, using the formation phrases from the sheets we have sent home – it really makes a big difference.

On Tuesday, we explored our reflections using little mirrors. The children loved seeing what incredible little people were looking back at them! We talked about our features, how we are all friends, and how our differences make each of us unique and special. Everyone created their very own self-portrait, which we will proudly display in a special Reception Floor Book.

On Wednesday, we set off on a special St Luke’s Tour! The children were so excited to collect golden tickets along the way (we earn these when the whole class is doing the right thing together – no small task at just 4 and 5 years old!). We popped into classrooms, visited offices, and even spotted buddies, siblings and cousins. It was a lovely way to meet more of the people who make our school community feel like one big family.

On Thursday, the children were eager to get hands-on in the kitchen, making rice crispy cakes ready for our Reception Open Afternoon on Friday. Together, we discussed the ingredients, how to melt the chocolate, and where to safely keep our treats until the big day.

Finally, on Friday afternoon, we welcomed families to join us for some play and sharing. The children were so proud to show you what they’ve been learning. Thank you to everyone who came along – it means so much to the children and to us.

We wish you all a happy and safe weekend, and we look forward to another exciting week ahead!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
