Reception Weekly Blog (19.6.26)

Date: 19th Jun 2026 @ 2:30pm

Happy Friday everyone!

The children arrived on Monday full of excitement to meet their new Experts of the Week. In Pinewoods, we had Jude teaching the children all about his love of sport and football. The children enjoyed hearing about his favourite teams, sporting activities and the importance of keeping active. In Sand Dunes, Bella amazed us with stories from her trips to Thailand and her passion for caring for elephants in animal sanctuaries. We loved learning about these incredible animals and the special work that takes place to look after them.

On Tuesday, we learnt all about Pentecost and why Christians celebrate it as the birthday of the Church. We discovered that Pentecost is the third most important festival in the Christian calendar. The children listened carefully as we learnt about the disciples waiting together before hearing the rushing wind and seeing the flames that showed the Holy Spirit had arrived.

Wednesday saw us begin practising for Sports Day. The children impressed us with their fantastic listening skills, teamwork and determination. They worked hard on their races, remembered the instructions carefully and showed excellent team spirit throughout. We are all very excited to continue practising over the coming weeks.

On Thursday, we were delighted to see our caterpillars hanging upside down and forming their hard chrysalis shells. The children have loved observing the changes taking place and are eagerly awaiting the next stage of the life cycle. We cannot wait to see the beautiful butterflies emerge when we return to school next week! It was so nice for the children to pop down to the year 2 classrooms to check on the little chicks that arrived as eggs on Monday.

On Friday, we rounded off the week by revisiting and celebrating our new maths learning. The children were introduced to a Rekenrek, a special counting tool that helps us count efficiently using "one push". The children quickly became experts at using one finger to push the correct number of beads and demonstrated fantastic counting skills.

We have had another wonderful week of learning, exploring and growing together.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! We can't wait to see you on Monday for another week of fun and learning.

Don't forget to send in your good news from the weekend by emailing [email protected]. We love hearing about all of the exciting things our children get up to outside of school!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
