Welcome back, everyone!

The summer term is here already, and we can’t quite believe it. The children have returned refreshed and ready to go! It has been an absolute joy to welcome the children back to school and hear all about their adventures during the Easter break.

Building upon the inspiration sparked by our focus children, we explored the cat kingdom this week. Through stories, discussions, and role-play, we are embracing our different interests, which make us unique and wonderful. It is inspiring to watch the children’s self-assurance blossom as they share knowledge of their own special subjects with friends.

Over the Easter break, our teeny, tiny tadpoles have continued to grow and wriggle all around their tank. They were given a fabulous new home in Miss Hesketh’s pond as they begin their transformation into froglets. On Monday, we tried our best to order the frog life-cycle stages whilst describing what we could see. We look forward to Miss Hesketh giving the children lots of updates over the coming weeks and learning more about the life cycle of animals.

Now that we are in the summer term, our Reception children are deepening their knowledge of number bonds to 10, using the ‘5 and a bit’ structure. We delved into the ‘ten-ness of 10’ this week by revisiting how 10 can be composed of two parts. The children were encouraged to see how finger patterns can be used to represent two parts of 10, using the fingers up and fingers down approach, with all five fingers up on one hand and the ‘bit’ more shown on the other hand. At home, ask your child to show 5 on one hand, then 'make 5 into 6’ allowing them to ‘grow’ the numbers 6 to 10.

Reception embraced another new challenge with gusto this week, as we took part in the London Mini Marathon 2024. Through laughter, cheers, and the occasional stroll, Reception completed an incredible 10 ‘and a bit’ (⅓) laps of the school field! In addition to this, Reception raised their voices, waved their creative banners, and proudly rallied behind Woodland’s Primary School as they passed a bleed control kit baton to our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.

This week’s star bakers whipped up one of our all-time favourite recipes: shortbread fingers! 🎉 With very sticky fingers and smiles on their faces, our budding bakers showcased their growing independence. From carefully measuring ingredients to expertly mixing, our children added their own flair and personal touches to the recipe. They then savoured every crumb!

Next week, we look forward to a walk to Church on Wednesday morning, where we will meet Rev. Matt, who has kindly offered to guide Reception on an exclusive tour inside our beautiful church. Once inside, we will lay on our backs and gaze up at the magnificent features and details. The children will leave school at 9:30 a.m. and be back to school in time for lunch. Please ensure your child is wearing a waterproof coat on Wednesday.

We are also excited to hop aboard for a train adventure in Reception next week (within our four walls), as our two focus children each share a passion for trains! We are very excited to chug, chug, chug along as we embark on a week of train-tastic fun with one another.

All aboard!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
