Reception Weekly Blog (19.1.24)

Date: 19th Jan 2024 @ 5:55pm

This week we have been busy creating!

We began our week by practising our new skills – weaving and sewing.  The children worked hard to practice different techniques and created patterns which they will be able to use when they make their finished product – a unique bookmark!

We continued our creative streak by beginning to build our ’Favourite book in a box’. Armed with brushes and an array of colourful paints, each child has already transformed a plain box into an enchanting story realm!

In RE this week, we explored the concept of special places – places that hold a special meaning for us, and also, places that hold deep religious importance to people in the community. We explored how churches serve as places of worship for Christians, and discussed what it means when a place is considered ‘holy’. Next week, we will be learning all about mosques, the sacred places of worship for Muslims.

We wrapped up another busy week with an exciting adventure into the world of rail safety, by reading ‘Arlo’s Adventure’ written by Freightliner train driver, Bessie Matthews. Each page showcased a valuable lesson about staying safe around rail tracks. It was wonderful to listen to the children as they eagerly shared their ideas and experiences, reinforcing the importance of safety beyond the classroom. Well done Reception!

Have another fabulous, frosty weekend everybody!

The Reception Team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
