Welcome back, everyone!
We hope you all had a wonderful Easter break. The children have returned full of energy and enthusiasm, and we are so excited to begin our summer term together. In true April style, we’ve experienced all kinds of weather this week—but that hasn’t stopped us from diving into our new theme of growing!

Monday
We were delighted to meet our newest class visitors—tadpoles that hatched from their jelly over the Easter holidays! The children loved observing them and discussing what they had been up to during the break. They also wrote a lovely sentence accompanied by a picture, which they were very proud of.

Tuesday
We shared photos of our favourite places and began thinking about what makes a place special to us. This links to our upcoming learning, where we will be exploring places of worship and other special places for people of faith.

Wednesday
In Sand Dunes, we celebrated our Expert of the Week. Alex helped us learn about dinosaurs—what they are, whether anyone has seen one before, and how they lived thousands of years ago.
Meanwhile, in Pinewoods, we explored the human lifecycle. With Mya’s help, we learned about the key stages of life: baby, child, adult, and older person.

Thursday
We were very lucky to have a visit from one of our parents, Georgia, who is a student midwife. She spent the afternoon teaching us about her role and how she supports mothers and babies. The children asked thoughtful questions and thoroughly enjoyed exploring her equipment.

Friday
We finished the week by consolidating our Maths learning. The children have been practising addition and subtraction, focusing on questions like: “How many now?”, “How many did I add?” and “How many did I take away?”
Why not try this at home over the weekend? Use a small number of objects (such as shells or stones, up to 10), add or take some away, and ask your child to explain what has changed. For an extra challenge, encourage them to write the number sentence!

Your child has also received a new set of green words to practise. Please cut them out and revisit them regularly over the next half term. We are seeing great progress in speedy reading—do take a look at this helpful video to support practice at home:

Have a wonderful weekend!
Please don’t forget to share your child’s good news with us—no matter how big or small, we love to celebrate it together [email protected]

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
