Happy Friday, everyone

This week has been full of learning, laughter, and memorable moments!

Today, we say goodbye to the lovely Miss Barnes, who has been with us since February for her teaching placement. It’s been an absolute joy having her in our classrooms. Thank you, Miss Barnes, for the fun, the stories, and all the care you've shown. We wish you all the best as you continue your teaching journey — come back to visit soon!

A Look Back at Our Week;

Monday kicked off with some exciting new learning opportunities! We welcomed two wonderful experts into our classrooms: Marla joined Pinewoods, and Halle joined Sand Dunes. The children were eager to share their spaces and learn from them. We were so excited to learn about what they are interested in. Halle taught us all about her love of the beach and looking after dogs with Mummy and Marla taught us all about her love of summertime and helping with jobs at home, like cleaning the cars and playing in her mud kitchen! The children love exploring different interests each week and we cannot wait to learn about more fascinating things when we are back on Monday.

On Tuesday, we spent time reflecting on the ways we can speak to God. The children took part in thoughtful and heartfelt discussions about how we communicate — both with each other and through prayer. It was a beautiful moment of connection and reflection.

Wednesday brought an incredibly special visitor — Guide Dog Glen!
The excitement was palpable as we met Glen, along with John and Gail, who taught us about the important role assistance dogs play in people’s lives. Many of our children are fascinated by dogs, and this visit gave them a new perspective on the incredible work these “superhero animals” do every day. We were so proud of how respectful and curious the children were — their thoughtful questions and gentle behaviour made the visit extra special.

On Thursday, Marla shared her love for fruit and summer by helping us create our very own fruit kebabs!
The children helped write a shopping list, and a small group even visited the local Co-op to gather ingredients. Together, we prepared vibrant, tasty fruit skewers while learning about where different fruits grow and which countries our snacks come from. It was a delicious experience that sparked some fantastic conversations!

To wrap up the week, Friday was all about the number 13.
Throughout the week, we explored how 13 is made — one ten and three extra ones — and practiced our subitising skills to break it into smaller parts. The children then brought their learning to life by creating colourful and creative Number 13 posters. Definitely not an unlucky number for us!

Secret Storyteller – We wrapped up the week with a visit from our Secret Storyteller, it was amazing to hear two new stories that mean so much to one of our school friends.

The children have now been taught most of the Set 2 special friends, please watch the video via this link, learning Set 2 special friend ‘ow’, the children follow the same structure in their reading and writing lessons. Therefore, the more you can encourage your child to spot the special friend before reading the word, the more confident they will be in reading words with these sounds in.

The Reading Scrapbook has had some amazing contributions, we are passionate about encouraging children to read for pleasure, and the scrapbook is a great way for them to share their thoughts on their favourite books. Please help your child choose a book, write a review, and feel free to include a picture, the book’s cover, or a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine! Don’t forget to share what makes the book special to your child—whether it’s a family favourite, their very first book, or simply a funny story they love. Please complete just one page in the scrapbook and return it in the canvas bag, so we can pass it on to the next child.

As the weather has been so warm, please consider applying a long-lasting sun cream before your child comes to school. The children are reminded daily to wear their sunhats outside, when the sun is shining!

Please continue to send us your good news (no matter how big, or small) we love to share it as a class and it is so pleasing to see your children stand at the front and talk about their news [email protected]

Thank you for another fantastic week, and a big thank you again to Miss Barnes for all she’s brought to our school. We hope everyone has a restful, joyful weekend!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
