A week of scientific discoveries in Reception!

Science week in Reception has been nothing short of magical, with each day bringing new wonders and discoveries. On Monday, Rev. Matt wowed the children by revealing that before he became a reverend, he was a real scientist and an avid space photographer! The children listened intently as Rev. Matt described his passion for stargazing and shared stories of his adventures in space photography, showcasing his stunning photographs of the moon and faraway galaxies.

The children were also treated to an audience with Miss O’Neill, one of our Year One teachers, who has over two decades of experience caring for gerbils as pets. We loved listening to Miss O’Neill’s wealth of knowledge as she discussed topics such as diet, habitat, exercise needs, and the importance of keeping more than one gerbil together.

Continuing with our science focus, the children really enjoyed exploring colours and patterns with the Skittles Experiment. The children were in awe as they poured warm water over the sweets and watched in amazement as the colours started to mix and swirl, creating miniature works of art. We even dove into the fascinating world of microorganisms as we embarked on the Bread Experiment. We spoke about germs and predicted what might happen to a slice of bread if we touched it with dirty hands compared to a slice of bread that was touched with clean hands, emphasising the importance of using soap! Each morning, the children eagerly check on their bread slices. There are no changes yet, but watch this space!

In the spirit of spreading laughter and making a difference, our whole school came together to celebrate Red Nose Day on Friday, dressed in an array of red-themed outfits and bursts of colour. We decorated red noses, shared our funniest jokes, and took on the Red Balloon Challenge! Well done to our winning comedians, Mollie and Orla, whose jokes were chosen to be shared in front of the entire school!

Mollie: Knock, knock. Who’s there? The interrupting cow. The interrupting cow wh–MOO!

Orla: What do you call a man with leaves on his head? Russell!

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody. Please share any good news with us via our reception email address, [email protected]. This could include outings to the park, visits to relatives, hobbies at home, sports. Anything at all that is important to your child—we love to hear all about it.

The Reception team :)

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
