Happy Friday everyone!

We’ve had a wonderfully warm and sunny week here in Reception, and the children have made the most of it! Our outdoor areas have been full of energy and excitement as everyone enjoyed learning and playing in the sunshine.

On Monday, we were delighted to welcome two new Experts of the Week. In Sand Dunes, Oliver shared his knowledge about vehicles, especially construction machines, teaching us all about the different types we might see. In Pinewoods, Theo talked about his love of Ireland and rugby, sparking lots of interest and discussion.

On Tuesday, we explored the idea of Special Places. We learned about how, as a boy, Jesus visited the Temple in Jerusalem with his parents for a special celebration. We talked about how the Temple was a very holy place for God’s people. The children reflected on their own experiences of visiting special places, including places of worship, linking back to our recent learning about baptisms and weddings.

Wednesday brought a special treat as Mrs. Allen joined us to teach rugby skills. The children had great fun catching and throwing balls, describing them, and learning some simple rules of the game. In Sand Dunes, we also focused on tractors and farming vehicles, thinking about how they help farmers with jobs like ploughing, planting, and transporting goods.

On Thursday, we learned about important vehicles that help us in emergencies, including ambulances, fire engines, and police cars. We discussed what each one does and how they help people in different situations. We also celebrated International Dance Day (29th April) by exploring Irish dancing—a lively and energetic style known for its fast footwork and rhythmic movements. The children really enjoyed giving it a try!

Today, we wrapped up the week with our maths learning, focusing on the number 13. We talked about how some people think 13 is unlucky—but not us! The children loved playing counting games, especially our circle game where the person who said “13” had to sit down. We played again and again until only one child was left standing! Over the weekend, you might like to spot the number 13 at home or out and about—perhaps on a house door, in a shop, or by counting 13 natural objects like pebbles or shells.

Have a wonderful long weekend everyone! We hope the sunshine continues, and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday for another exciting week of learning—with two new experts and a focus on the number 14!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
