Happy Friday

What a wonderful and busy week we’ve had in Reception! The children have impressed us with their enthusiasm, kindness and creativity as we celebrated several important events and themes together.

Monday – Odd Socks Day!

We kicked off Anti-Bullying Week by proudly sporting our odd socks! The children absolutely loved seeing everyone’s different combinations and we talked about how our socks symbolise what makes us unique. Together, we explored the message that our differences make us special. In provision, the children matched odd socks and even designed their very own creative sock patterns!

Tuesday – Remembering with Respect

On Tuesday, we designed and created beautiful poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day. The children showed such maturity and respect as they joined in with a two-minute silence, watching our Year 6 friends lead their assembly for the school. In the afternoon, the children amazed us with their creativity, designing their own versions of Flanders Field – each one thoughtful and unique.

Wednesday – Real Life Superheroes

Our midweek focus was all about real life superheroes, inspired by the people we remembered on Tuesday. We introduced this year’s Anti-Bullying Week theme: “Power for Good”, and the children discussed how they can use their own power to spread kindness and positivity. It was lovely to see them working together and sharing such caring ideas.

Thursday – Our Kindness Heart

On Thursday, we combined everything we had learnt about respect and using our power for good to create our very own Kindness Heart. Each child painted their hand in a colour of their choice, pledged what makes them a good friend, and shared what their “superpower” for kindness would be. The completed heart looks wonderful and will be displayed in our classroom as a daily reminder of how we can help others make good choices.

Friday – Children in Need

We ended the week with a splash of colour for Children in Need! The children looked fantastic in their Pudsey-inspired outfits – from bright yellows to fun spots, and everything in between. It was our first ‘own clothes day’ and the excitement was contagious! We talked about the importance of Children in Need, how the money raised helps others, and the role Pudsey plays in supporting children across the UK.

In Maths this week, we’ve been getting to know Number 4! The children have enjoyed subitising within 4, exploring different ways to make 4, and identifying 2D shapes – particularly squares and rectangles. They have been learning about the properties of these shapes and working hard to perfect their number formation.

In Literacy, we’ve been focusing on our special friends and reading green words. The children have now been assessed and grouped for Read Write Inc. (RWI), ensuring that each child is supported at their own stage of the reading journey. Please continue to spend some time together at home practising speed sounds, special friends, and green word reading – it is really making a difference!

The children really enjoyed their first visit to the Coop this week, they took some loose change and a shopping list. The children were on the hunt for grapes, bread, cucumber and a tasty dip to enhance snack this week. This will happen weekly, so please ensure your child comes to school with a waterproof coat now the weather has taken a turn.

We love to share your good news, please email us at [email protected] with news no matter how big or small, we love to see it!

Please don’t forget to send in a photo of your child reading one of their favourite books in one of their favourite places for our displays. We are still collecting them.

Have a great weekend,

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
