Dinosaur discoveries and new furry friends

What an incredible start to the week it was as we stepped into our classroom on Monday morning, only to discover that a special guest had paid us a visit—a real-life dinosaur! We couldn’t believe our eyes when we watched a video of a dinosaur roaring around our classrooms! The children were gripped by this introduction to a whole week of prehistoric explorations, which ignited curiosity and sparked wonderful conversations.

In addition to our dino discovery, we eagerly welcomed our furry friends — our new reception gerbils. Thank you to the children for such wonderful suggestions of names. We have too many to choose from! Currently our gerbils are nameless but not for long, we will take a final vote this week! From the moment our gerbils arrived at school, it was evident that our young caretakers were eager to ensure their well-being and happiness, diligently monitoring the food and water levels and learning valuable lessons about responsibility and the importance of looking after others. We can already see a beautiful bond building between the children and our beloved gerbil friends!

This week, we explored a special day in the calendars of Christian people around the world: Palm Sunday. Through story-telling, we uncovered the significance of this vibrant occasion, marking the beginning of the Holy Week, and discussed big questions such as why did Jesus choose a donkey to ride into Jerusalem? We decided that Jesus rode a donkey to show that he did not need a big, fancy horse like some kings did and that all Jesus needed was a humble donkey, which celebrated the simple things in life.

An enchanting week lies ahead, filled with more magical moments as we celebrate in style, the power of stories! The stage is set as we journey to the theatre to watch our much-loved tale ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’ by Julia Donaldson on Wednesday. Our feet won't even touch the floor before we return to school on Thursday as stories come to life on World Book Day. We can’t wait to delve into the pages of our favourite books, and immerse ourselves in the joy of reading and storytelling.

Have another wonderful weekend, everybody.

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
