Reception Weekly Blog (12.6.26)
Date: 12th Jun 2026 @ 2:30pm
Happy Friday everyone!
What a lovely week we have had in Reception.
This week, we welcomed two new experts into our classrooms. Over in Sand Dunes, Fallon taught us all about her love of Frozen, sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with her friends. In Pinewoods, Mikey became our expert and taught us all about his passion for Monster Trucks. We loved listening to their presentations and learning from them. We cannot wait to meet two new experts next week as we focus on sports and keeping active!
On Monday, the children arrived at school to a very exciting delivery – teeny tiny caterpillars! They were absolutely delighted to meet our new arrivals and have spent the whole week learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.
We have learnt that there are four stages:
Stage 1: The Egg
Stage 2: The Caterpillar
Stage 3: The Pupa (or Chrysalis)
Stage 4: The Butterfly
The children have enjoyed observing the caterpillars closely and talking about the changes that will happen over the coming weeks. We cannot wait to watch them transform and eventually fly away to begin the life cycle all over again.
A few weeks ago, we were lucky enough to welcome a very special visitor – a Midwife. Can your child remember what a Midwife does? This week, we revisited that learning as we discussed the arrival of a new baby and the special ceremonies that families may choose to celebrate and welcome them into the world.
We explored ceremonies such as Christenings, Baptisms, Dedications and Naming Ceremonies. The children remembered when Rev. Matt baptised Wrinkles during our visit to St. Luke’s Church, and many of them shared their own experiences of attending Christenings and Baptisms with family and friends.
In our reading and writing sessions this week, we have been focusing on holding a sentence and remembering the important ingredients needed to make a perfect sentence. We have practised using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and ensuring our letters are formed correctly and facing the right way.
Some sentences you could practise at home are:
- I will catch a big fish.
- This is a long thin bug.
- I have lost my cap.
We have also had some really interesting Maths sessions this week. The children have been learning about the "5 and a bit" way of thinking and talking about numbers greater than five. We have explored irregular arrangements of five and discussed whether they show five or not five. We have also investigated regular and irregular arrangements of ten and talked about whether they show ten or not ten. The children have enjoyed explaining their mathematical thinking and reasoning.
We hope you all have a wonderful weekend. We cannot wait to see everyone again on Monday and, hopefully, enjoy some nicer weather!
Don't forget to share your good news with us at [email protected] No matter how big or small, we would love to hear about it and celebrate with you.
