What a Wonderful Week in Reception!
What another wonderful week we have had in Reception! Our children continue to settle into their new routines beautifully, and we are so incredibly proud of how confidently they are beginning to find their feet around school.
This week, we have been busy learning names and faces around school. We know that remembering lots of new names and recognising all of those new faces can be tricky, but the children have been practising lots and are becoming more confident each day. We have loved seeing them greet familiar faces around school and begin to build those important new relationships.
Understanding Our Emotions
A big focus for us this week has been understanding and naming our emotions. Through stories, songs and lots of conversations, we have been talking about the different feelings we might experience and how we can recognise them.
Our biggest hit has definitely been The Colour Monster! The children have loved exploring the different emotions represented by each colour, and we have spent lots of time thinking about what our bodies might be telling us when we experience different feelings. We have talked about how our hearts, tummies, faces and bodies can all give us clues about how we are feeling.
It has been wonderful to hear the children beginning to use their new emotional vocabulary throughout the week!
Our First Week of Read Write Inc. Phonics!
We are incredibly proud of our phonics learning this week! The children have been introduced to all 25 pictures from our first Read Write Inc. set. During our RWI sessions, we have spent a few minutes each day practising naming the pictures, getting our brains ready for the next exciting step.
Next week, we will begin learning our pure sounds!

Our First Books!
Today was another very exciting milestone as every child chose their first book for sharing! The children were so proud to bring their books home in their reading folders and we can't wait to hear all about the stories they have enjoyed sharing together.
A gentle reminder that water bottles should not be placed inside reading folders. This helps us to minimise the risk of books and other school property becoming damaged. Thank you for your support with this.
Next week, your child will also come home with their first pack of Speed Sounds, once payment has been made via School Spider, along with a practice sheet to use at home. These resources can stay at home for you to practise together.
Looking ahead to next week
We will be focusing more on the story of Elmer to discuss how each of us in our ‘school family’ are different and unique, and that’s what makes us so special.
