Reception Weekly Blog (11.7.25)

Date: 11th Jul 2025 @ 3:42pm

Happy Friday, everyone!

On Monday, we welcomed two new children to enjoy their special week as the "expert in their field." In Sand Dunes classroom, Stella taught us all about her upcoming trip to see her Nan in Namibia – the children have been fascinated to learn about the animals and interesting facts about this special place. Stella also taught the children about her love of garden bugs and what we might find in the green grass and beautiful flowers. In Pinewoods, the focus turned to Hallie whose special interests was camping and most importantly… Nannie’s dog Teddy. Hallie shared her dog training tricks with the children, and how she teaches Teddy to “sit!”. The children have fully embraced the interests of their friends and they can’t wait to explore our last special week next week!

Have a good look through all of our photos below, the children have been SO busy!

We are so incredibly proud of how well the children settled into their second transition morning in Year One. The children spent the morning with their new year group team and even went to the hall together for lunch. The children were so excited to talk all about their adventures to Year 1 when they returned after lunch time.

Thank you to everyone who has been a secret storyteller this year, we have really enjoyed having you. You have helped us spread a love for reading and learning, look out for more ways you can get involved in your child’s learning next year.

The children have now been taught all of the Set 2 special friends in phonics. Please continue to support this learning at home. You can watch this short video that introduces the sound “ou shout it out”.

Encouraging your child to spot the special friend in a word before sounding it out will really help build their confidence. We have also been talking a lot about ‘speedy reading’, we are really encouraging our children to ‘Fred in their head’ and say these words with increasing speed and accuracy.

Thank you for all the wonderful entries we’ve seen so far in our Reading Scrapbook. It’s such a great way for children to share their favourite books and develop a love for reading. Please help your child complete one page – it could be a short review, a drawing, a picture of the cover, or even a photo of you reading together. Let your creativity shine and return it in the canvas bag so we can pass it on to the next child.

We love hearing about all the great things the children are doing outside of school. Please keep sending us your good news – big or small – so we can celebrate it together in class. Email us at [email protected]

Enjoy the lovely weather this weekend!
The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
