What a lovely week we have shared together in Reception!

On Monday, we enjoyed our very first walk to church – and what a brilliant morning it was! The children walked beautifully with their buddies, looking out for all the wonderful signs of autumn along the way. In church, they sang perfectly and showed great respect throughout the service before enjoying the walk back to school. We are already looking forward to doing it all again for St. Luke’s Day.

On Tuesday, we reflected on the autumn signs we had spotted during our walk to church. After the weekend’s storm, we found lots of fallen leaves and couldn’t wait to use them for leaf printing and leaf rubbings with our autumn treasure. The children also created some truly wonderful autumn crowns! We read The Leaf Thief – a perfect story for a windy, autumnal day. It’s a lovely book to share again together at home over the weekend, if you can https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLCfh4l477k .

On Wednesday, we read Oliver’s Vegetables and spent time exploring a range of vegetables – some we love and some we’re not so sure about! The children used all of their senses to investigate the different textures, colours, and smells. During circle time, we shared our thoughts and listened carefully to each other’s opinions. It was a lovely reminder that we are all different, and that’s exactly what makes us special.

On Thursday, continuing our vegetable theme, we explored our basket of vegetables and spoke in depth about how they are planted and how they grow. The children amazed us with their knowledge about which fruits and vegetables grow above the soil and which grow below it. Their curiosity and understanding were wonderful to see!

On Friday, we rounded off our week by reviewing all of our learning. Even with so many exciting activities happening, the children still managed to learn and remember their new sounds – e, l, r, h, and j. What fantastic progress!

Please do keep practising letter formation at home, using the formation phrases from the sheets we have sent home – it really makes a big difference.

We sent out our final email to you on Wednesday this week, containing 5 ‘Fred Games’ which play an essential part in your child’s reading journey. You will see we have popped in the first set of green words into your child's book bag, please cut up the words individually, we advise that you practise these words with your child at any calm opportunity. Remember to encourage your child to “Fred Talk, read the word” by pointing to each dot below the sound and blending them all together. We have attached a video below to help you to support your child in learning how to read https://youtu.be/vhLjXT1jP9M

Do not hesitate to stop one of us if you need any support or guidance.

We can’t wait to see your good news from over the weekend, please email us at [email protected] with news no matter how big or small, we love to see it!

The Reception Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
