What a wonderful week we have had in Reception!

We started the week with much cooler weather and were all very thankful for the fresh breeze around school.

On Monday, we met our two new experts. Over in Sand Dunes, Oliver shared his passion for music and told us all about his dad's time in a band. Oliver was so excited to teach the children about different musical instruments and share his love of music.

In Pinewoods, the children were wowed by Luna's love of dance and drama. Luna also taught the class all about her love of Barbie. The children were fascinated to learn the story behind Barbie's creation—that a mother wanted her daughter to have a doll who could inspire her and encourage her to dream big.

On Tuesday, the children were ecstatic to finally release our butterflies. We watched as they fluttered away to begin their life cycle all over again. We also absolutely loved our visit from Jay at Active Sefton, who spent the morning teaching us all about healthy eating and the importance of enjoying a broad and balanced diet full of colourful fruits and vegetables. We learnt how different coloured foods can help different parts of our bodies, including keeping our hearts, eyes and brains healthy. The children then enjoyed making and tasting a delicious fruit smoothie, and we loved seeing all of the little red smoothie moustaches afterwards! They were amazed at how simple it was to make, and we're sure many of them would love to recreate it at home.

On Wednesday, the children made us incredibly proud as they took part in their very first Primary School Sports Day. They walked beautifully to and from the field and approached every race with enthusiasm, determination and fantastic sportsmanship. We are so proud of each and every one of them and all the effort they put into the morning. They are already looking forward to doing it all again in Year 1!

On Thursday, we returned our focus to our expert children. A stage was set up for Luna and her friends to perform dance and drama, and the children loved putting on their own performances. Oliver continued to impress us with his musical talents and even brought his dad into school to perform for the children. What an incredible talent—he truly wowed us all!

On Friday, we rounded off the week by consolidating our maths learning. The children have been securing their understanding of the numbers 10–20, recognising one ten and the extra ones that make each number. We have also enjoyed playing lots of fun games where a number between 10 and 20 has been hidden, and the children have had to use their number knowledge to work out which number was missing.
